A highlight of both the theatrical and film versions of Grease, the ‘Teen Angel’ cameo includes the song Beauty School Dropout, a fan favourite. The role was originated on Broadway by Alan Paul, later a member of The Manhattan Transfer, and was recorded by 50s teen idol Frankie Avalon for the 1978 film adaptation of Grease.
“We asked legendary casting agent Robert Ulrich (Glee, The Glee Project) to find us a heartthrob to appear as the ‘Teen Angel’ for a week of shows. Instead, he found us four!” says David Galpern, Producer of Grease: The Musical.
George is thrilled to perform in the special guest role of Teen Angel at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto, June 12 – 17, 2018 in this exciting production of Grease: The Musical. “Grease was the very first musical I was ever in,” says Canyon. “I played Johnny Casino and I was one of the Greasers with Danny so we sang ‘Grease Lightning’. So to come full circle and actually do Grease the Musical as ‘Teen Angel’ puts a smile on my face”.
Throughout his accomplished career as a Canadian Country Music Artist, he has won many awards – Juno Awards, CCMA Awards, and ECMA Awards to name a few, has been inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame, recorded 12 albums, regularly performs all over the world, and has acted in a number of films, television shows, and stage plays. Outside of his music, charitable work and four seasons as home games anthem singer for the Calgary Flames, many people might also recognize George for his numerous roles on the big screen. From Charlie Wells in the hit family CBC Television show Heartland and the head forest ranger in Trailer Park Boys, to Bull Shelton in the Hallmark Channel’s highest-rated original movie “One Starry Christmas”. He also starred opposite Trace Adkins in the remake of the classic western film “The Virginian”.
