On Saturday, January 17th, just before the Calgary Flames play their 24th home game of the season against the Phoenix Coyotes at the Pengrowth Saddledome, the audience will hear the voice of George Canyon ring out the teams’ respective National Anthems. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBC-TV at 8pm MT.

Canyon has just completed a tour of western Canada and has released a new album entitled “What I Do.” The first track, “Just Like You,” a song written for his son has reached #4 on the country music charts. “I’m very honored to sing our Canadian anthem, especially at a Calgary Flames game! When I was a kid growing up in Nova Scotia, hockey was LIFE, and I’m happy to say my son has picked up the stick and loves the game as I do. This will also be the first time in my career that I’ve have had the opportunity to sing the United States anthem, which I’m looking forward to.”

There will be a special added theme to this day as The Calgary Flames will be saluting Calgary’s heritage and celebrating that the 2009 Calgary Stampede is now less than 6 months away. As well as George singing both anthems, live entertainment includes a performance by Guns of the Golden West and a special trick roper. There will be western themed promotions and features with prizes awarded throughout the night and to top it all off Flames’ mascot Harvey the Hound and Ice Crew will be there in full costume!
