 Calgary, AB – Multiple Juno and Canadian Country Music Association Award winner George Canyon and the Calgary Flames have teamed up to create a unique opportunity for music and hockey fans.  Canyon has committed to become the official singing voice of the Calgary Flames for the 2014-15 season.

“I am so honoured to have the opportunity to sing the national anthem with the Calgary Flames hockey team,” said Canyon. “I am a huge fan of the Flames and to join them for their home games this season is so exciting. I get to sing in front of Canada’s greatest fans, honour my country and watch fantastic hockey!”

In 2004, Canyon was runner up in Nashville Star 2, but became very well known in Canada and garnered much support, being the only Canadian artist to make the cut for the competition. The rest is county music history punctuated with industry accolades, awards, achievements and sustained success over the past 10 years. In addition to an iconic career in music, Canyon has appeared in several films and in the long running CBC series “Heartland” as a re-occurring character.Canyon is also recognized as a humanitarian with a deep commitment to community. He is acclaimed for his philanthropic and charitable support for both the Canadian military and JDRF. In 2008 he received an appointment in the Canadian Forces as Honourary Colonel and appointed Colonel Commandant of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets in 2012. Canyon who is originally from Nova Scotia, currently resides in High River, Alberta with his wife Jennifer and two children.

Canyon, who has made special guest anthem appearances at Flames games in the past, will make his Scotiabank Saddledome debut for the 2014-15 season on October 21st when the Flames host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
